I got my first ripe fruit into the kitchen this morning - three "big boys". This is a heck of a lot earlier than last year, when I began to worry if they would ever ripen at all. This is even more surprising when you think that I am up in the "frozen north" - Cumbria!
All female cucumbers are of an indecent size, but not as prolific as the standard varieties I had last year.
Chillies threatening to take over the greenhouse - which, on reflection, is probably where I should have posted this thread.

I'm miles off yet, in tropical Kent.

Ditto!

Most of my plants have just started to set fruits.

Fruit has all arrived but green here in midlands

Some of my plants (all outdoors) are covered with fruit, but they're well off ripening yet.

These first ones (about to be followed by three more) are on Beefsteak plants, as supplied by B & Q. I grew all my others from seed, but my OH told me (After seven years!) that she didn't dislike ALL tomatoes, and that she liked the big ones that she had in Spain. Too late to sow seeds, so I bought the plants.
Having followed the thread about varieties of Beefsteak toms, I am wondering if she is in for a disappointment.
All other varieties are laden with fruit, but no sign of ripening yet.

Nothing ripening in Essex either, altho masses of fruits this year!  No cucmbers yet, altho masses of immature fruits, and plenty of flowers - both sexes, so a glut is predicted, sometime in November when we are off salads!  :-\

We're not always comparing like with like?

We've had ripe toms indoors for some time, but no way would they have ripened yet outdoors.
And we only had our first 'proper pick' today.

The first of the indoor tomatoes has a slight tawny blush this morning. Sooo excited! ;D
