Do you have a NGOH? (non-gardening other half)

What do they think about your obsession?

My hubby is a NGOH, but he loves digging (good job too really!) He occassionally gets fed up with me saying things like 'the leeks have grown another millimetre today'! But also enjoys the enthusiasm with which I talk about all things horticultural. He's even said he wants to learn more about it, as he's feeling a little left out. He's enjoyed watching How to be a gardener with me and GW, but now he's talking about reading some of my books too!

NGOH for sure - as I said in another thread he comes over all peculiar when I ask him to 'do' things in the garden or up the lottie.

However - he has his own obsession.  He flies model aeroplanes .... and only really gets animated and engaged when he is in conversations with other people who fly model aeroplanes.  

Sound familiar to anybody else out there?!  :D  Was it Ceri who divulged that her other half was into American Country music - this only revealed after the wedding day?

Yep it was - the shame stays with me daily - I'm impressed your NGOH is beginning to show interest Aquilegia - mine uses Friday night gardening television as an excuse to play on the computer!  He doesn't do digging etc. but did perk up his ears when I asked him how I could use scaffolding tubes to make an A frame for runner beans - perhaps training men is the same as children - start from what they know or what they are interested in and manipulate (sorry, educate!) from there!

 My other half showed no interest in the garden except to take credit for all my hard work.........sooooo...........got rid of husband..kept the garden....tehe  ;D

NGBGBAHOH is Ava.  A non gardener but good builder and handyman other half.     ;D  He is good when I say, 'where shall I plant this' as I have no design skills at all, and he is fantastic when I say, 'I want a cloche......shed....compost heap', and he is champion at saying all the right things and giving me lashings of moral support and he does show a keen interest when I am rabbiting away about how the astilbes are through and the dicentra and increased and what a stunning yellow the mahonia is this year, when he has no idea what I am talking about!

my other half, has expressed no interest in my allotment and keeps endlessly complaining about how much money i spend on seeds and things, but i recon he secretly loves having so much free time away from me, as we work together as well, and it can get a bit much.
however i put his name down for the lotty next to mine, as you are only suposed to have one per person, and we have just got it.  
he went down on sunday,  cleared loads of top soil and weeds from the bottom 1/4 and built a hudge mound along the bottom path, sort of like a d**e, its at least 4 foot tall , 2 foot wide and 4 meters long ???????  and he wants to make it 6 foot so no-one can see over it. this also envolved all my tools being left out all week in the snow etc.  i seriously think he has either lost the plot or just trying to wind me up.  It was supposed to be my new plot now hes taken over in his madness.
Well if he acts to his usuall form he will get bored soon and i can take his wall down.

My NGOH isn't allowed out into my garden unless I supervise as he has this habit of pulling up plants and leaving weeds. :(

Come to think of it, it might just be a ploy to get out of weeding altogether.  :P

Mine firmly states the garden is MINE! He is definately NOT the outdoorsie type! The only time he is willing to be in the garden is if he has a beer in hand, and bar be que on the go. He throws his eyes up to the skies when seed sowing begins (as in now!) and every window sill in the conservatory is covered!
Hasn't trodden a step on my allotment in .................well, I can't remember the last time he was there! Which actually suits me fine as it is MY domaine, tho a little help with bramble clearing wouldn't go amiss at the moment, I am sure if I offered him a flame gun he would be there in a shot! ;D Does enjoy reaping the benefits of having a growing crazy wife tho, he loves eating the veg! DP

My other half is a deffo non-gardener but like Ava is brilliant at building or creating anything I need.  Next project is to create the raised beds( hopefully on next leave home).  Only thing he is allowed to do is mow the lawns, and even then he wont trim the edges.  I couldnt let him anywhere near my borders because he hasnt got a clue and would kill off everything.Mind you he doesnt mind watching the gardening progs with me and I dont mind him watching all the rubbish HE watches while Im on the puter chatting here ;D ;D

In some ways a NGOH  is possibly safer than having two keen gardeners, fewer disagreements over what to plant where and who is going to do what etc. especially in a small garden. Not that any of that applies to us.

But then, in our household (regardless of the nature of the domestic dispute), it is clearly understood that if there is any blame to be assigned - it's always HIS fault!   :D

i can get mine to watch gardeners world and fork to fork (he's quite keen on that one) until i say "see, now you know as much about growing carrots as me so you CAN have an opinion and help me grow stuff"

i wish he was into gardening though because then he might actually ask the man he works with who is doing the research into garlic and slugs for the recipe!

Yes, I suppose that it would be nice to have more hands on help but then he would expect me to like motor bikes and F1 more :-\ Naah  lets keep things the way they are. ;)

My other half hasn't been to my plot for about a year. Not the earthy type at all. Me and the dog love it and lots of non-helpers love to eat the results! Do I care? Naw! Gets me out of doing the ironing!
