Spring is on its way.    Today, this little chap has returned to my garden.  Probably ran out of natural feeding but I usually have them around and they have been known to nest in my garden.

Wow Carol. Lucky you. These lines will be abuzzing if I ever get anything other than starlings, sparrows and blackbirds!!!! For all that I really enjoy watching them/ Today after I had treated the new bird table I decided to give the garden seat a coat of preservative. One of the blackbirds was creating quite a noise as if to say "Go away I want to feed!!"

Thankyou Carol, ive never seen a yellowhammer before, how beautiful  :o  :)

Would you mind me asking which area you live in, i was curious as to where the yellowhammers reside?

Carol

Welcome back Honeybee!  I had wondered where you had disappeared to.

The Yellow Hammer is a bird normally associated with rural areas and usually feed in the fields and thereabouts.  They are buntings!!  I am surrounded by farmland thats why I have them visit.  They seem to move into my garden around this time of year and stay around at nesting time before returning to their normal feeding areas.  These are the birds who sit on phone wires singing'Little bit of bread and no cheese'!!!!!!  The female yellow hammer is duller than this and doesnt have the yellow hood.

I live in the Scottish Borders.

Thanks for the lovely words Carol  :)

Loved the info on the yellow hammer, funnily enough my sis lives in Aberdeen surrounded by farmland so i am wondering if she sees them.

If you dont mind, i was thinking of sending her your pic so that i could ask her?
