As you know, I have been less that well over the last 24/36hours, and at about 5am this morning I was running a temperature so my darling opened our bedroom window wide so I could breath some fresh air and cool down.  As I laid there in agony, I listened to a beautiful dawn chorus.  I assume it was blackbirds as there have been lots about of late.  What was so nice was, altho there were lots of songs, it was obviously only one or maybe 2 types of birds, not that deafening orchestra of songs that you get in the summer.  A real early morning treat....I would say, almost worth being poorly for......I said almost!

Maybe wrong Emma but think its the Robin who keeps on singing during the winter.  No doubt I will be corrected. Lovely hearding the birds singing tho in Midwinter

Hope you feel better soon.  This virus is doing the rounds up here as well andits nasty.  The cough goes on and on.  Keep warm Emma.

:D :D :D :D :D

Robins will sing at this time of year with a bit of provocation. I remember going over Magdalen Bridge in Oxford when I was a kid, in total darkness, and hearing a robin singing in the trees, in the light thrown by street lamps.

I have just about got back to normal, after being down with that for three weeks.
It seems to be sweeping the country.

It could well be blackbirds you heard - I hear them on a morning, too.
You can take me out of Yorkshire - but you can't take Yorkshire out of me

Could have been thrushes as well as blackbirds and robins in your dawn chorus, EJ.   I hope you are feeling better now and will soon be back on your feet.

Mrs Ava

Thanks Pauline.  All better now...touch wood! We do have lots and lots of birdies around here, woodpeckers, wrens, robins, blackbirds, thrushes, starlings, robins, sparrows and t*ts to name but a few - guess it could have been any, but it was such a strong whistling song.  Wish I could get an automated window opener to swing it open for me for an hour so I could lay in bed and listen!  ;D

Yellow Petals

Our little fella starts to sing at 01.15am every morning without fail.  Hubby and I never go to bed much before that and usually take up a mug of tea with us - the robin(s) are always on cue!  A lot of the time there is chit chat between two of them, one right outside the house and one a bit further down the street.  All goes quiet about 02.30am and starts up again around 04.30am!

Hi EJ, I hope you are properly recovered by now. Hi all,  :D

The birds outside our bedroom windows just started singing all night and will do for a few months now. Then they will squabble over food and territory `til next autumn. We have massive amounts of city centre light pollution so it never gets dark. I enjoy it but i don`t think its healthy for the birds.

Col
... I am warmed by winter sun and by the light in your eyes.
I am refreshed by the rain and the dew
And by thoughts of you...
