.......... gardening gloves.

Went to clear out my gardening bag and as it is a very sunny day, I decided to wash my gardening gloves. I counted 7 plus 2 pairs that I have left on the lottie. 10 in total. They get dirty so quickly and I am always buying new ones.  They are all different and I don't have a favourite pair.

:)  It seems to me I only ever have left handed gloves!  Where do all the right handed ones go  ???

Those surgical ones are about as strong as weak loo paper  ;D

I suppose I did have a favourite pair.  Those that fit like a second skin, not sure what they are called.  They were £10 a pair from Chelsea Flower Show.  All the others are either made of cloth, some with rubber coatings on the fingers.

This summer I wore a red pair of rubber coated gloves, the heat on that particular day was horrendous to say the least and every time I put the gloves back on they were so hot with the moisture they almost burnt my hands. :'(  So they are not my favourite pair in very hot weather.  I had thought about buying surgical one, but as you say Wardy they are not very strong and make your hands sweat.  Sorry,  :-[ we ladies perspire. ;D  ;D

I use industrial 'rigger' gloves at work. These are bought in bulk and cost 30p a pair. Sometimes they get left in my pocket when I go home (oops!) so they occasionally find their way onto my allotment. I reckon I can get 6 months use out of a pair if I avoid getting them sodden with mud.

Used to hate wearing gloves in the garden, but since my parnsip allergy, and gardening in other peoples gardens, I now make the effort.  Find it difficult to get a good fitting pair, I have small hands and small can be toooo small, and medium toooo big!  I make do, but do find I take them off when I am weeding.

Lily

I couldn't weed without any gloves on.  Have been in the garden today, damp and wet, but very sunny.  If the gloves I have are too big I wear a small pair inside a large pair.  Only thing is I can't bend my fingers. :'(

This time of the year I like my fleece lined leather ones! But how on earth am I supposed to wash them? As soon as they get wet they get rock hard  :(
I use the surgical ones all the time, protects my hands from unseen nettles, but you are right, you do "glow" in them!

Use an old fingerless pair Lily ...

I can never find perfect gloves :'(. They never seem to do what they are meant to. My rose pruning gloves let thorns through, my waterproof ones let water in, and my washable ones melted in the wash! I have found wearing surgical gloves over fabric gloves quite good in the winter though! :)

Wardy,

I must have all your right hand gloves, can I have my left ones back  ;D

Generally don't like to wear gloves unless clearing brambles, maybe that's why my hands are always full of splinters. :-\

My husband bought me some lovely suede leather ones last year and they got filthy so I washed em.  Never again.  Rock hard and I can't get my hands in them as all the knitted lining has gone manky  ;D

I have some leather gloves, which said were washable, but they too went rock hard  >:( and I am just beginning to get my hands back into them.

Fingerless gloves inside large gloves are a good idea, I'll try that next time.

Iwear 2 pairs. Well 3 really. A thin cotton pair underneath a marigold on the left and an industrial working man's on the right! Think I could patent that idea. The cotton ones stop the sweat in the marigold and is always handy for wet stuff. The right is excellent cos I use that end for using my fork and it stops blister's etc

I wear two pairs too - a pair of thin, knitted cotton ones underneath a pair of 'tough' household rubber gloves.

I get eczema on my hands and can't bear to get wet too much (I do wash, though, honest! ;D).

The rubber gloves keep my hands dry from the outside, and the knitted cotton ones soak up the sweat, keeping me dry inside as well and i can still bend my fingers. Ok, I get through several pairs of each a year, but hey, if it's comfy, go for it!

I'm with Reedos - only wear gloves for brambles or when taking cuttings from things like euphorbia. Don't know why, just never liked using them  - I get through a fair bit of hemp hand cream though..

I'm the same love getting my hands dirty but do suffer with stings thorns and bites, as my OH says you will never learn
