Grandads 80th is fast approaching, and I was in charge of cake decorating.  Here it is in all it's glory!  The 8 are 2 fruit cakes, the 0 is an eggless chocolate cake with eggless icing so daughter number one can have a slice!

We don't inherit the earth, we only borrow it from our children.

That is fabulous EJ.  A job very well done.  I am sure he will be thrilled when he sees it.  Good idea to do a choice of cakes as it is amazing the number of people who don't like either fruit or sponge, so a good mix and nice nobody will be excluded.   :) busy_lizzie

Well done EJ. They look beautiful and very tasty  ;D

Just thought you might like to know, cakes for me need to be totally free from Cow's milk, I have a severe Cow's milk intolerence, thank goodness I can take Goat's milk. I assume there is absolutely no alternative for your daughter?

Cakes are a nightmare for the allergic anyway.
Your average fruit cake will have nuts, butter, eggs and wheat flour. You have to be careful with some bought fondant icings cos they have gelatine which stops the vegetarians having any (Regalice is fine though, and has no eggs and is suitable for veggies).

Never mind cakes being a nightmare, it was originally thought that I had a gluten intolerence too, I breathed a HUGE sigh of relief when it turned out to be just Cow's milk.

Mrs Ava

The only two allergies the family seem to have are daughters very severe allergy to eggs and my baby nephew is allergice to cashew nuts.  The only substitute is an 'eggless egg' product from Australia we have come across so I am able to bake cakes and make quiches which she can eat!

Two different cakes suits everyone at this party as some don't like fruit cake, but they all like chocolate cake...suprise suprise!  It is only a light fruit cake made with light brown sugar and there are dried tropcial fruits with the regular dried fruits, and no nuts.

Emma - just seen those cakes - they look fantastic, well done you...how long before Grandad gets to try them?....

Mrs Ava

We went down last weekend HotPot.  Weather was stunning and spent Saturday morning with the kids on Westward Ho! beach.  Fabulous childhood memories came flooding back!  All teh family together in the afternoon and evening barby-ing and drinking to celebrate the old boys 80th.  In the end we (the grandchildren) got him night vision binoculars as he has gotten into bat listening, so now he can bat watch to!

That picture is absolutely wonderful EJ.  Lovely to capture such a fantastic occasion.  It sounds as though you  all had a brilliant time.  What an interesting present too, it beats  socks or aftershave.  Great to get something he can really enjoy.  Happy Birthday EJ's Grandad may you celebrate many more!  :) busy_lizzie
