have some tomatillo seeds which have come all the way from Arizona.  They are apparently a relative of the tomato but you eat them when they are green.  They are used primarily in salsa.  Haven't tried them before but they are growing like mad in my growing rack!

Would like to swap them for anything unusual - proabaly perennial or annual flowers.

hi all, `scuse me sticking my nose in...

I grew tomatillo last year. I`m waiting to see if my harvested seeds germinate.

If anyone tries these you need to let the bees get to them after the flowers come. Thats not hard `cus bees seem to really like them.  Then you get loads of fruit on 6ft tall plants. I believe you need more than one plant to get fruit. Varieties will differ but they are ripe when they are pale green and taste like apple but they are very bitter when dark green. They are not frost hardy but otherwise easy to grow. I`m still using mine from the freezer.

There will be pics on my upcoming website.

thanks Col - that is good to know coz the packet did not give much info and was largely irrelevant as they were sold in arizona so slightly different climate!

What do you use them for?

Columbus

Hi Justy,

I`m a veggie and I eat a lot of ratatouille style veg.
So I just throw them in straight from the freezer to bulk up or add interest to whatever else I`m cooking. I add the larger and riper ones to "mexican" dips and salads too.

btw, they also don`t get blight.
