Hmm, I think not pigeons. They tend to leave the ribs of leaves. The photo seems to show strait cuts. Could it be a biped with a pen knife?

I agree, but doesn't rule out a pigeon with a pen knife.

Never had those when I was in West Sussex ! Even the ones at Brighton station were 'armless'

I've had furry rodents eating my brassicas over winter- I caught them at it, and found their tunnel in the bed with bits of leaf sticking out! Outrage.  It didn't look like that though- bit more nibbled.

Mystery solved; my neighbour saw pigeons doing same to her brassicas. Enjoyed the replies though :thebirdman:

Just  as I looked at the photos on a larger screen and noted the stalks cut off. Thereby agreeing with the other posters that it was possibly not pigeons!

Yes pigeons wreak havoc, I was losing mine at an alarming rate early on in my endeavours on my allotment, then a neighbouring allotmenteer gave me these mesh frames as he had gone raised bed, big enough to allow plants to gain maturity and fend for themselves, made from galvanised weldmesh and polyprop water pipe wired together, simple and cheap :)

Looks like an good job there Nigel.

Good against rabbits too. They're fond of brassicas.
