Anyone as disappointed with these as I was on Crimble day? Due to unforeseen circumstances this year, I tried to grow my own but weather and health took over my crops. So I tried the "Michelin Star Perfect according to Michel Roux Jnr" and we were all so let down, no fluffy interior, no taste at all!

We had Maris Piper (bought, not home-grown) and they
were perfect!

Last of the kestrels and a couple of desiree, lovely. Tried roosters a couple of years ago, not impressed 

We had Bartlett 'Apaches'..those red spuds with white 'eye's' on skin...home grown..and they were just about ok. Nothing really to advertise about..just ok. They did good crop of nice and clean potatoes, but I think the problem with ours is that they grew quite large..and I suspect they should have been lifted earlier on when they were still small..
Oh well..I shall have to try them cooked into mash, casserole, 'salad' spuds..etc, etc,..

I grew too many Pentland Javelins to eat as first earlies so left them in to mature and then put them in store. They made the most perfect roasties I've ever done, both for taste and texture, I'll certainly repeat next year.

I grew a few roosters this year.
Nice smooth skins, even in my heavy soil, but no flavour, won't be growing them again.

Do not sound like anything to shout about then!
We are using up Charlotte at the moment and I am most impressed.

I hate to be the odd one out, but I love roosters. They make great chips and good baked spuds, but I've never tried roast potatoes with them.

We had Desiree there were none in the shops, went out and dug them up.

Not personally a fan of Rooster however much they are advertised constantly featuring Michel Roux jnr.
I wonder how much they are paying him to constantly be plugging them.   There is a recipe for perfect roast potatoes with goose fat.

I have never grown roosters but was disappointed by a packet from morrisons albeit reduced. I wouldn't personally grow it because they are a main crop which takes to long for me- think there are far better 2nd early or early maincrop kestrel at least and some of the mayans.

I do like some of the other albert bartlett potatoes for example purple majesty not just for the colour but think some like rooster and apache are overhypes.

Cooking recipe can be critical too- goose fat good but groundnut oil better imho.

have used roosters (shop) for roasties for a while with good results, but back on Maris PIper now after some recent poor results
