Allotments 4 All

A few days ago I found a Grass snake on one of the plots, trapped in some fine poly garden netting. The netting had been left on the ground near the plot holders boundary fence and weeds had grow through it. Fortunately I heard the snake wriggling in an attempt to get free. I was able to reach over the fence and after much gentle manipulation removed some of the mesh, it still needed a pair of scissors though, to completely remove the rest. This is not the first time I have heard of this happening, in fact when clearing up my new plot I found a complete skeleton of a Grass snake that had died , trapped in discarded poly netting.
I would appeal to all lottie holders, please don't leave potentially hazardous items laying around.

I managed to kill one in netting over strawberries a few years ago.  I was gutted especially since it was the much large female.   I tend to prefer net curtains now.   Well done for rescuing one.   

Mind you they do tend to hoover up the baby frogs and toads.

Robert......Yes it did !..... while I was trying to remove the netting, fortunately it didn't do very much and it washed off ok.

I've caught quite a few big grassies in the past and they do loads   

Yes good reminder - I found one trapped in my garden and cut it free last year, but later found a long-dead one. I felt terrible.

Had a huge Grass snake on my plot last night, a good 4 feet long, probably a female. Unfortunately it was one of the rare times I didn't have my point and shoot with me.

I've got one residing outside my back door in a black plastic dustbin which I use for my kitchen waste. Not sure if it is just resting or nesting.
