I just read this on line: "In past years I have put pots of cymbidium orchids outside for the summer in my perennial garden, and I have placed the pot on an aluminum pie plate. I have had no trouble with slugs eating them. Downside, is the pie plates don't look very nice, but I put them in the back of the beds."

Has anyone tried aluminum/aluminum foil to protect pots?

If it has electrical 'potential it should do, thats how copper bands work..not sure on whether it has or not though I suppose it must have, try a bit of foil on a filling in your mouth, that says it does to me....lol

They say it has less electrical potential than copper, but still enough. I'll try it since happen to have an aluminum pan. I'll punch some holes in the bottom so it drains. The only catch may be it won't rise very high so long slugs may attempt it, especially with the flooding rains we're having lately. Shall report back stat, Sir!

Organic slug control method :courtesy of the Centre for Alternative Technology, Machynlleth

Select a quantity of comfrey leaves, Allow to wilt for 48 hours. Place on the ground flatly around slug infested areas. Allow to remain for 2 days and 3 nights.
Revisit each leaf and stamp on it.
