Got up the lottie today with camera and thought I would show off and show what is growing on the old plot.

My broadbeans are growing like the clappers!


And here is a row of garlic, my little soldiers!  I have onions and shallots all growing like mad, but how many pictures of alliums can you take!

Great isn't it!  I LURVE nature!!

Well done, you!!  Because of going away in Jan & not back til March, my broadies are still in their packet, but the garlic's through - planted later than yours, tho, & I'm hoping the shallots will show before Jan? At the moment they're fleeced to keep the birds off..got elephant garlic in too, tho haven't looked to see if it's showing yet...sprouting broccoli's looking good. Nice to have something growing to look at  & worry over in the winter ;)

When did you plant your sprouting broccolli? is it too late now?
some of my garlic is showing which was very exciting. we discovered it yesterday when we were taking a friend of felix's on a tour of our little lottie. We felt so proud! ;D. then I saw something has been trying to dig up the elephant garlic. but obviously didn't like what it found when it had unearthed it coz it was still there undamaged. (Thankfully). I put it back to bed and tucked it up nicely.

Sarah, the sprouting got seeded last summer so they're good sturdy plants now..Tim's posted a pic of his & mine are about the same size. Still, you'll be able to get some going next season? - Lishka

Thanks  Lishka. What time of year did you sow yours? I'm  very fresh and green behind the ears. a meer seedling myself ;D

Sarah - in case Lishka doesn't make it - first, look on the packet - one can't geneneralise. There are many different types of broccoli - and 'early' and 'late'.  But, to generalise - early April.

 I much prefer 'white sprouting' - to me, a nicer flavour - but a little less hardy, so don't rush it!

And if you start them in modules as I do, don't forget to trim the roots when planting out (as I was reminded a while ago) - something that would happen naturally if you pulled them out of a seed row.
