Has anyone else been having problems playing videos in Firefox lately? It first started on one laptop and at first thought it was something to do with the machine. Now it has happened on my desktop as well. I have tried reinstalling Adobe flash player, Adobe Air, Shockwave flash and even the browser software itself. No relevant ad ons to the browser seem to be disabled either and still no joy. No problems with IE or Chrome on the same machines.

Any ideas?

Removing Firefox with Revo Uninstaller would be my first port of call. Then reinstall, see if it works. If not do the same with flashplayer, although I think that the problem has to lie with FF since your other browsers are working ok.

Be aware that Revo will remove everything, all settings, bookmarks, etc. Everything. Which is the whole point. If you want to try this and get stuck with using Revo let me know.

Also there's a possibility that it might be malware so it wouldn't hurt to do a scan with Malwarebytes first.

I have an application called Ccleaner which does software uninstall as well as internet/windows clean-ups. Would this be thorough enough? There is an option when you uninstall Firefox via windows uninstaller to keep or remove personal information (ie bookmarks, cookies tags etc). Didn't use this option when uninstaling before but again would that be enough to clean firefox from the system and do a fresh install? I am guessing this Revo thing goes deeper and cleand registry entries as well?

I have Norton 360 on the PCs affected. I would have expected it to have picked up any malware or viruses affecting Firefox.

Thanks.

An anti-virus ( and Norton is not the best one) only stops viruses. there are all sorts of other malware it doesn't stop (many trojans, adware, spyware). Download and run Malwarebytes and Spybot Search and Destroy. They will eliminate lots that Norton won't.

I had problems with firefox not flaying videos, it was caused by hardware accelerator issues. I dissabled hardware acceleration and everything has been fine since

Try the following - hope it helps

Tools menu and select Options...On the menu bar, click on the Firefox menu and select Preferences...At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Edit menu and select Preferences...
Select the Advanced panel and the General tab.
Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.

Yup, Revo will remove registry entries and any leftover files that generally are not removed on uninstall. I don't think CCleaner goes as deep.

Try Stevens suggestion first, though. It's simpler, less time consuming and if it solves the problem, sweet!

Update. Sorry its been a while.

Have tried the hardware acceleration thing and the Revo uninstaller. No change. Still cant watch videos on firefox. BBC videos and iplayer try to load but cant, other websites get a blank gap. You tube says an error has occured but no details.

Do you have realplayer installed with the realdownloader enabled?  Or any other video downloaders.  If so disabled them..or update to the latest versions

Have a look through these pages..
