If we cleared the brambles.

At the back of our pavilion there is an area, rather poshly called 'the compound' which is very overgrown with brambles.  At the moment it is surrounded by a fence.

I took a photo of what it looks like on the inside by sticking my camera through a gap in the fence.

We think this would be the ideal place to put our new 20ft x 8ft greenhouse.......but we would obviously have to clear the brambles first.  The area measures 26ft x 24ft.  I think we would take the surrounding fence down to give it more light.

I know that Shirl and Tone are very optimistic about clearing it and I suppose if we could get a gang together it wouldn't be too difficult but the thought of it is a bit overwhelming.

Work party, its amazing what a group get done.
It's not much to ask for members to help a bit, with all you do for them, and it's so good to all work together.
What out if any of those hunks on your site get a sweat on and strip off Betty!! avert your gaze ;)

You know what they say about faint hearts Betty. If not then I will tell you tomorrow. ;D
When I get old I don't want people thinking
                      "What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
                    "Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

I agree, work parties can get through loads of stuff. We have one on saturday, the communal poly needs cleaning and repairing so, with the tantalising offer of a big fry up after, we should get a good crowd there  ;D

We had a work party on Sunday and could not believe what we got done in 2 hours plus an enormous bonfire of sheer rubbish out of 2 tumbledown sheds plus a large elder tree wrenched out of the ground and tons of ivy.

Oh heck- I do not know if I will sleep tonight now!

In the autumn we had well over a tonne of reasonably fresh manure delivered (an really enormous pile of s***t if I may say so). A few of us with wheelbarrows managed to shift the lot in a few hours, I couldn't begin to say how many barrowloads we wheeled, the plot that had ordered 2m2 had at least 25 barrowfulls put on their ground!!!
So in a group you can get a heck of a lot done. We didn't get a fry up afterwards though  :'(  Just backache!

A few photos of the area we cleared ready for the new greenhouse

This was behind the fence, completely overgrown with brambles
[attachment=1]

The fence came down, and then the concrete posts
[attachment=2]

Three strong hunks carried them away
[attachment=3]

Looking better already
[attachment=4]

All the slabs were lifted and stacked at the side
[attachment=5]

The area is all cleared and the space where the greenhouse will go is marked out.  The bramble roots are still there though.  I suppose they will all have to be dug out.
