We have had Aldi fruit bushes before and they have been very good, :)

Thanks for the heads up, i've been keeping my eye on their website and their is no mention of fruit trees.

I'll take a drive tomorrow and pick up a plum for my Mum  ;D

:-\..although they don't tell what rootstock is used for crafting these trees, I suspect they are more suitable for growing in ground than in large containers. Those that are suitable in container growing would normally mention it..and Aldi/Lidl etc..don't sell those..well..haven't seen them so far.
Sorry..but I think if you want trees to containers..you need to turn to fruit nurseries or garden centres.
As for the containers..you really need to look for substantial size or you find that you get hardly any rewards for you efforts...look for half a barrel size 'pots'...and..then there is the appropriate growing medium too.. ::)

If you e-mail Aldi they will source / tell you rootstock. My Aldi had 3 kinds of apple, pear, plum and peach. Really good looking trees I thought too.

2 more cherries, 2 more plum and another Bramley. Brings the grand total to, erm, let me think......14 Aldi fruit trees.  ;D ;D

Shouldn't be short of fruit again. Ever.

Not to mention the blueberries I've just bought from Wilkos. Or the raspberries, gooseberry, cranberry and blackcurrant.  :-[

Can the Aldi fruit trees be grown/trained espalier fashion?

Ive got the stella cherries trained as fans against the North east facing fence, the willams pear/and apples as a espallier? - branches trained horizontally and the plums the same on the south west fences all fruited well last year despite being young trees.

So long as you prune out the leader and train the branches its should be fine. The tree trunk will thicken and the branches will need some care but it can be done regardless of what the rootstock really is.
and it makes a lovely boundry and doesnt take up as much space. But plant them quite far appart so or train the branches not to meet (one trees below the other rather than on the same line)

Given that the ground is frozen but the thaw has started, if I buy an Aldi tree, is it all right to keep it in its bag for a few weeks or should I unwrap and spray with water or something?

I want to buy a plum tree.

Well, I bought one, Plum Golden Gage (having intended to buy an Opal) - they had loads of trees, great buys at 3.99.  It is sitting in its bag awaiting clement weather.

I just couln't resist buying a bramley yesterday on the way home from the plot(Well we do have to pass the door ). Tony said "Well if you think we need it" that was a yes. Think I may have to buy another because it takes 2 others to pollinate it but it doesn't return the favour.The guy on the next plot has an apple so we should be ok.

Just been to Aldi on the way home from the plot and picked up 2x3 soft fruit plants reduced to 99p each and two more apple trees. A Braeburn and a Cox. Just recieved my T&M seeds.
I feel better for that ;D

what a bargain just bought a cherry a plum and pear and already planning to go back next week.thinking off fan training them along the fence

I planted my golden gage yesterday and trained it along the fence, It was very healthy pruned well and so much better than the hacked of branches with barely a root on them sold by B&M for the same price.

Very tempted to go back and see whats left today!
