Any more empty nesters out there?

Having dropped one daughter in Bath last week and the other in Lancaster today, and our son has been travelling for nearly a year, we finally have the house to ourselves (although we're under no illusion that i will be permanent!). It's a weird feeling, a mix of sadness at them leaving, excitement for them in their new lives and trepidation/anticipation at having time to do what we want to do.

Anyone else out there in the same position?

Don't they call them boomerang kids now, when they go and come back again ;)!

No.  ::) In 15 years time I hope to be able to go to the loo in peace (with the door shut), cook a meal without anyone moaning, watch the TV channels I want, find the remote control, not trip on toys or slip on food, have a lie-in... and a whole load of other things.

Happy & sad times combined for you though - hope you have some good plans?

Yep, our older two both came back after uni and with the lack of jobs out there I'm sure it'll happen again.

As for plans, we haven't got further than blitzing the house and (for me) spending more time at the plot, but holidays for ourselves are definitely in there!

Well my kids are in their late thirties now so they left home a long time ago.

After years of the house being full of life the silence even now can be deafening  :'(

My adult children are great friends but I miss those little people .

The good thing is your time is your own and you can do what you want to do.

Hi Caroline, our youngest started uni last year and it took a few weeks to adjust to being a couple again, but, having done so, we haven't looked back. In any case, the holidays come round really quickly and then we're back to family life...and then the holidays end and back comes all the spontaneity again.

Our youngest is now 30 , he went to Lancaster, also, and I miss seeing them all regularly (live all over ),
however, I now have 4 lovely grandchildren and I spend lots of time with some of them, it does get easier  :)

Same empty nest feeling here. I worked out that I've had children around for two thirds of my entire life! The youngest is now away at uni too, and am finding it hard cooking smaller meals. They do eat a lot don't they. The house is so quiet. On the plus side, there's less laundry, and the electricity bill should go down  ;D

We're packing our daughter off on Saturday to Birmingham.  Our son will be gone this time next year to Swansea.

I'm thinking about making them stay home.   :'(

mine are both in their 30's too and now have children of their own so it really nice when the come and fill the  nest again but I do love it when they go home again, yes you do get to love the peace and quiet ;)

I must say it was nice to cme home at 5:30 today and go straight out to the plot for an hour without having to fit around anyone else! (OH is away in London/Leicester all this week so I really can do what I want!)

pumkinlover

That must be even more of a culture shock as OH also away.
You can do just as you choose but it's still not as nice ;)

We had hoped to be... but the little one didn't get in... by next year the big one will be finished and may return...  :-X
