Allotments 4 All

27C and not a cloud to be seen.   Same yesterday.   It's supposed to get a bit cooler after tomorrow but still be dry and about 20C so well above normal temps.   The violas I planted in window boxes and tubs for a winter display when it was cool and grey and dismal 2 weeks ago have now cooked!

I've taken advantage of the heat and sun and done a glyphosate spray on paths.  Can't do any planting as the soil is bone dry after a very dry season so I'm pottering with potting up cuttings, seedlings, divisions and so on - and watering all the plants I can't get in the ground.  relacement violas are staying in the shade for now!

Just been to watch grandson playing footie in Clevedon just one section up the M5 from us and coming home saw an accident.It didn't look serious but the tailback  :o :o :o :o
It was totally clogged all the way back into Weston and right back further down the motorway towards Taunton.Those poor folk had a lovely day by the seaside and probably won't get home 'til Tuesday  ;D
Did feel sorry for them honest ! 'resisted the temptation to wave as we sped along going the other way  ;)

Took our daughter to Lancaster uni today and it rained nearly all day. Given how dry the soil was here I was hoping it had done the same at home, but got back to find it dry.

I WENT SWIMMING!!!!  ;D ;D ;D

Had a lovely family day with daughter, SIL, grandchildren, et al - very hot, thermometer on the terrace - (in the sun) - showing just under 40ºC  :o

Left the old wrinklies sitting in the shade and joined the mob in the pool!

Seems the tsunami hasn't reached you yet.

Glorious peace and quiet on the plot today when I arrived.  :) I guess the warmth was too much for most people with more sense than me - I was the only one there apart from a nearby Filipino neighbour also out enjoying the sun... he vanished around 2pm.

The "cool crowd" appeared at around 5pm but vanished well before dark.

Just a few more days warmth then it's going to dip. Down to about 14^oC on Friday.  :(

Its been very hot today,had to leave bedroom window open,just looking at a4a cant get any peace for the OAK TREES!they are droping there acorns they bounce of the shed roof ,and the fence,theres four v large trees,wish the squrrels would take them all of it like someone throwing stones all night!must go and close the windows :( :(

The acorns sound like thunder don't they! I was at an RSPB site yesterday and we visited a few hides to look out across the wetlands. On ever hide door there was a sign saying "Quiet Please" which was amusing as the acorns falling on one hide sounded like bombs as they hit the tin roof!!  ;D

Today is cooler and cloudier - I guess Autumn might be next?  ???

A very hot weekend in Yarmouth, there was about 25 of us sunbathing outside our caravans on Sunday and its bloody October.   :o
Spurs beat the ars, what a weekend, I even had a few ciders with Tonybloke.   8) 8) 8)

It has been windy all day, lots of rain with some very heavy showers. Not the best.

Windy with a few showers, did I dream about the hot weekend away, is Tonybloke real.   ??? :o :P :D

A bit of drizzle during the day.  Heavy showers during the evening.  Hopefully will be able to get the fork into the ground, its been like concrete.  Am having to employ a young man to do the winter dig as still waiting to go to the hospital about my shoulder  :'( :( >:(

On Wednesday evening "the wind was up" to put it mildly.

Despite the grey and the wind it remained dry yet again all day Thursday. ::)

I'm not complaining about not getting soaked but beginning to wonder if the summer bedding will last much longer in quite dry soil.

Much cooler to-day we had a wee thunder storm this afternoon,in bed with hot water bottle ,yes Iam a softy. ;D

Friday - the sky turned black but the sun shone out from beneath the clouds. A beautiful rainbow - a hefty shower then the night drew in.
