Allotments 4 All

I have grown these for the first time this year and had a good display. Do I cut them back to ground level when finished flowering or just leave them?

I think I'd just leave them.

We had a patch in the front garden years ago. We let them get on with it and they reappeared every year.

We have two lots that e basically leave to their own devices :)

I have some growing through an apple tree.  Lovely! the tree flowers for months. ;D
They just seem to pop up and flower year after year.  The slugs and snails must deal with the wilted stems I certainly don't.

They are lovely but can get invasive. I dig loads of mine uo every year and every year they completely take over the bed. On the other hand, whenever I have tried to transplant them, I have failed. ::)

 ::)......never had heard before,...of a perennial sweetpea,..........can anyone tell me where i can get some?

i had some years ago but when i moved for got to bring them with me i always cut them off at ground level when doing autumn tidy up and no i haven't seen any for sale any where lately must start asking around garden centres as would love to get some again you dont see the seeds any where either

Brown thumb...I'll have a look for seeds off mine. They are in a "natural" (ahem...untamed) part of garden, so no guarantees. They are pinks :)

I was given the seeds by a friend  who had saved them from her flowers.  I'll see if I can gather some seeds as they finish flowering to pass around.

been to both sites (big mistake cant resist seeds)  decision time coming on  which do i go for

I agree that, once established, they can be very invasive. When I wanted to get rid of one of mine I had to dig really deep to get to the massive roots - and then paint it with Root Out and cover it with black plastic for a season. The damned thing was right in the centre of a precious vegetable bed :o

Another I cleverly? planted against a tall hawthorne hedge. Well, I thought that it would be pretty growing through it. And I'm sure it does. It grows towards the sun and my neighbour is well pleased every year with the freebie show he gets ;D

And it gets chopped off to the ground about now. I did a big cutback at the weekend and disposed of the rubbish but if I find pieces I've missed tomorrow which have seed pods I come back to this thread and offer them. The flowers are pink, btw.

Glad they arrived safely, not sure when to plant the seed, I had pods split and throw some seed seed into some tubs this time last year and have taken, maybe will flower next year.
