I didn't :-[ I expected a bigger crest but I think that is just in males in the breeding season?

gp.girl

Whatever you do DON'T admit to having them.

Bit late....

This is one of the reasons they are 'rare' ::)

No where as scary as snakes in the compost bin or the huuuuuuge big toads that love being in the poly tunnel.

No large ponds close by so never gave newt a thought although I did think it was mighty big for a lizard. It's really fantastic to have seen it. Often see toads, frogs and lizards.

The offence is "deliberately to disturb ...", so there's no problem finding a GCN by accident.

Beautiful creature.  Do please tell your wildlife and countryside officer at your county council that you have GCNs on your site as it's possible they don't know and they need to make sure that everything is being done that can be done to protect them and their environment - it won't affect your allotmenteering, it'll just make sure that the newts are looked after.

Please also make sure that your site management know that GCNs are on site so that they can put a management plan in place.

What it will mean is that no one can start building houses on the site.  8)

We were hoping to find some (or even one) on the grade 1 agricultural land on the edge of the village. No such luck  :( and even when the grave of an ancient Briton warrior was discovered it didn't stop the development company for long.  >:(
