Does anyone know why this black has suddenly appeared?  I'm using IE but can't remember which version.  I don't remember changing any settings.

IT COULD BE THE TOOL BAR SETTINGS

I sometimes get that too on the desktop PC! Such times I've got v. good at guessing where 'favorites' is 8)

And then next time I open the PC we're back to grey again (mostly).

Except the times when the 'start' button shows bright green..... ::)

IE as well and I've not upgraded to '8' so spect it's still '7'?

I went on one thread today and it was on widescreen- I had to scroll along to read the full line.

It's very strange, but I'm getting used to it now.
The Goth look is quite nice  ;)

That happens if someone puts in a long link to a website. There are no spaces in the URL so the post becomes as wide as the URL which means it doesn't fit in the screen.

Have you tried clicking on Compatability View (the icon immediately to the right of the address bar that looks like a sheet of paper torn in half).  That sometimes fixes pages that haven't presented properly.

I just tried it but no luck, still have the black at the top.
Thanks anyway.  :)
