I've never netted beans, and never had anything go for them. On the other hand, brassicas need armed guards to keep the buggers off.

I have had sharp beaked birds (magpies?) peck away at the pods when mature. Very annoying. But I have never noticed wildlife attacking the young plants except when growing near a huge hedge alongside my plot - I think creatures (unspecified) creep out and nibble them, but do not like to go further into the field. So I don't put them there any more.
