No they were not forced! Just add well composted horse manure in January!

Pulled some yesterday morning ( Sunday ) not forced but sheltered by a big oak tree which may have helped it.  Just hope it does not run to seed as early as it did last year .

Mine's about 10 inches high but I haven't pulled any yet.  How high was yours?

I picked a couple of stalks last thursday but not a huge amount, just enough to make one delicious portion with yaghurt  Only about six inches long.  Mine were surrounded with soggy straw a few weeks ago.  I have now put a plastic flower pot over them.

Some varieties of rhubarb come through earlier than others, theres a few types on my plot and I've got a dustbin over one particular clump too, really looking forward to it. Timperley Early I think it is. Other clumps aren't really showing anything yet.

Talking of forcing, this is a good time to force any strong dandelion plants before you dig them out.... Just put a pot over them with a brick on top, after trimming off the winter leaves. I find the thin blanched leaves that spring up surprisingly delicious.

If mildly diuretic...  :o

I don't know what the variety is because I inherited it when I took on the plot.

Don't think I have any stalk on mine yet but still have some in freezer from  last

year, so am ok for now.

Today is such a damp chilly one, thinking of stewing some rhubarb with a little

ground ginger & elderflower cordial if I have any left - it's a lovely combination &

tastes fab

Wow Betty, yours is doing very well.

I moved a 3 plants back in Jan into spots with tons of manure (not well rotted at all  :o)

Anyway, the largest crown is a little slow but the smallest (maybe the variety) has half a dozen 4 inche shoots.

Suprisingly, when clearing the last corner of the lottie I discovered some rhubarb clumps with shoots on the surface which are now dug in.  Dont know how I missed them last year but the plot keeps throwing up suprises.

Mine was just showing as of a week ago! 

Mine's only beginning to move, but I've just covered it in mountains of last year's grass cuttings, so it won't be showing again for a couple of weeks.
