The other day i heard from someone at the allotment that in one of the papers it said the govenment had told local councils that they were not to dispose of allotment sites anymore?

It made it sound like some new law had been passed???

I tried searching online but can find nothing mentioning anything about this. Anyone else know anything about this?????

Much of what the government does nowadays never goes through Parliament. If they have, it's about time; allotments are fashionable as we all know, but there are still local authorities out there running them down and selling the sites.

Ninnyscrops.

Never thought I'd see allotments mentioned on the front page of the Telegraph, but they were mentioned there this morning!

It's about time someone challenged that particular piece of legislation!

:(

Its not really news, maybe Chelsea has prompted it. The person from the NSALG is misquoting the law. Councils dont have to provide land, they just have to consider requests for allotments from 6 people. The law is inadequate and needs redrafting but it wont happen.

Thats not exactly recent or relevant.

Spiritofold, statutory allotments are protected by law. Is that what youre thinking of?
