Hi
the copy of the passport will be needed to prove you are allowed to work in the uk / and that you are who you say you are (if you see what I mean!). the bank details they are asking for is a matter of when you get a job they can sort out payment. If in doubt give them a call. And in the meantime try and check out their credentials

Good luck - I hate form filling!!

A mate runs a recruitment agency and has to have proof legally of "the right to work" (hence the passport) and bank details are often used to prove you live where you say you do but you shouldn't have to give account numbers before getting paid work...
Moved to Portugal - ain't going back!

Thought I'd give a little update on this - even though it's dated back in October! (I'm certainly not known for my spontaneity, that's for sure!)

I did spruce up my CV but in the end I didn't send it out because I've realised that to get involved properly in the work I want to do, I need more qualifications and experience under my belt (hat? I can't remember how the saying goes, LOL) I'm going to start with a Diploma in Social Work with Children & Families and will also contact the local voluntary bureau in this town to see if there's anywhere that needs my help a couple of times a week (I don't work Tues or Thur, lucky me!) and just go along with the momentum of what this brings.  How does that sound for a plan to start with, any good?  I feel annoyed with myself for leaving things so late in life, I turned 43 this year so I'm pretty sure the whole social work degree is out of the window for me time wise.  By the time I qualify, I'll be drawing a pension! LOL  Oh well, there are other equally as fulfilling roles I'm sure.

Btw, I was reading on a website earlier today that no recruitment agency should ever ask for banking details at the registration stage so I finally got that question answered! :)

43 is not old! When my OH was doing his post-grad social work course straight after his degree (30 years ago!) he was the exception- there were several people in their 40's on the course. If you want to do it- go for it!

Over the hil? Nah! My OH started his degree when he was 40. So plenty of time yet for you  ;D But the Diploma and voluntary work sounds like a good idea - updating and increasing your knowledge and gaining more experience. Those things always look good on a CV  ;)

Best of luck with it all

I too would say 43 is not old too!   You still have plenty of time to work after completing a degree, the retirement age is going up too so that will give you more time! ;)  Sam, you only have one life and we all need to make the most of it, so look into doing what you want to do and see if you can get on a course, if it is not possible at least you will have tried - I hope I don't sound bossy, just much more 'why not go for it' type of talk  ;) :)  Starting with the Diploma though will give you a feel for it though and you can decide if you want to go further, well done for looking into it. :)

Looks like you will get a whole string of us telling you to go for it! :)

43, yer right, plus VAT.      :P     :-X     ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

I do not think that 43 is too old.  I think that the idea of a social worker with a good set of life experiences is a good thing.  It is not an easy job and they are crying out for the right sort of people.

With a handicapped daughter I have had experience from the other side of social workers and those with a more mature outlook were much more use than youngsters.

If this is what you want to do go for it.
