I'll believe it when I see it!

I'd love to see Alan Titchmarsh back.

Get rid a our Joe thats all i asked.

So they are still overlooking Carol Klein. >:( (I know some here will be happy about that!). Still, I bet Toby's happy to be called young at almost 40!

My vote is for Chris Beardshaw, but I guess they'd say he's too young as well.

mat

I don't mind a "young" presenter, I just want a professional sensible program, whoever the presenter is and whatever their age.  :D

Flighty

Mat I agree!  :)

Many people complained that it was like watching Blue Peter at times, hence the reference to back to grown-up gardening I guess!

I don't think it is the presenters that are the problem more likely to be the producers.

Its they that tell the 'experts' how a task should be performed i.e. to suit the production crew in carrying out their brief.

If something comes out of it fine! but as we have seen of late it has completely 'dumbed down' the presenters.

I don't think any of them( the presenters) are as dumb as they appear.

If and when you meet them you find them at say public shows they come acroos completely different.....i.e. the are human!

Give me a live show anytime!!

manicscousers

practically word for word what my fella said, Tee Gee  ;D
the presenters are the fall guys  :)

All knowledgeable folk and all immensely likeable but not giving us what we want? To be honest even Alan Titchmarsh's aura began to fade for me when he did the interminable makeovers to a formula. Lost a lot of his rugged charm! ;)

I like Carol too but clearly her face doesn't fit. Ageism perhaps? A shame because she really knows her stuff. So does Toby dammit!  >:( >:( >:( And I'm sure Joe was responsible for lots of additions to allotment waiting lists.

Which makes me wonder about the likes of Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand (both of whom I wholeheartedly detest despise. (Just my opinion you don't have to agree). How many of their absurdities are courtesy of the production team?

Anyway I do hope that GW will become interesting again.

Simon Cowell's looking for a job........

caroline7758

Well, the Telegraph says it's going to be shorter and Alan Titschmarsh is warming up, the Daily Mail says it's going to be longer and Toby will be continuing. ::)

Looks like they want to keep us guessing! :)

non-stick

Going back to the traditional 30 mins is a good idea.
60 mins was full of padding. Get shot of the arty farty out of focus shots that plague so many programmes, as well as zany camera angles - too close close-ups and jerky direction.
At times watching programmes I get seasick. Frame the shot and show us what is happening. The only gritty bit we need is in compost.
By all means have stuff for beginners but dont treat them like 2 year olds.

Jill

There's an article about it by Gay Search in next week's Radio Times.  Going back to 30 min slots.  Apparently they have "listened to the audience and have taken the criticism on the chin".  I'll believe it when I see it :-\

Lady of the Land

I liked the new format. Although I am reasonably competent about vegetable growing I am not an expert regarding other aspects of gardening.

I expect that Gardeners World over the years has built up a loyal audience who over the years have gained experience/ knowledge from both the programme and other means and therefore it is these people who are not happy.
An ideal solution would be a bit of both within the programme

non-stick

It wasn't the "back to basics" that was the issue nor the teaching stuff to new gardeners. It was the crass way it was done - Ice Cream Vans to distribute seeds, what's hot, crap camera work and direction and padding to fill an hour. If they are going to teach us how to do stuff (and we can all still learn) then show it. Looking at the presenters face whilst potting a cutting or through a blury shot at grass level through leaves helps no-one. They do this on many a programme and what it adds is beyond me

It went from a must see to couldn't care less very quickly.

sarah

I agree with you non-stick.
I look forward to the return of a grown up gardeners world and its old format. I think there is room on our TV screens for a couple of gardening programs. Gardeners World as was and, perhaps, a newer style format for newer (younger?)gardeners.

I agree, they just got it wrong sending Carol a bunch a new gardeners to teach surly it would have been better to have had them in the new garden and let Carol do whats she does best show us  her love for herbaceous plants and how to maintain an established garden. and what a golden opportunity lost with our Joe's allotment to show the up n downs of allotment life to new gardeners, but then again i did learn how to boil me new spuds in a pan of water using a camping stove. ::)
