Am i right in thinking the round towers were built of flint, and they were round because there was a shortage of stone for the corners? That brick will probably be a later repair or addition.

Yes, robert!! you are right in thinking that!!
Norfolk has no underlying rock strata, being mostly  the youngest part (geologically) of britain. there are over 100 round tower churches in Norfolk, many of which have brick upper parts, added later, (usually by local rich person, to buy favour with the local Church)

I thought so. I remember seeing round towers in Suffolk, but it was many years ago and I wasn't sure I remembered right.
