Can anyone tell me how big these get? I assume from the name that they won't be ready for a while yet but would like an idea of their size.

They had some in Morrisons today, grown in Yorkshire, they were quite small.

I think they are not even football sized but been ages since I saw one :-\

T&M says small too:

"A decorative small-fruited squash, Festival has a marbled outer skin encasing sweet, nutty flavoured, pale orange flesh. The trailing vines of Squash Festival play host to fruits of about 680g (1½lb), which are also good for long term storage. Sweet flesh with a delicate nutty flavour. Ideal for roasting and baking."

Hi Caroline,

Winter Festival can be anything from a tennis ball to a small melon/large grapefruit sort of size. They can be good for serving as individual roasted squashes with melted cheese inside.  When my daughter was at uni they were brilliant for her.

I usually harvest mine about the middle of October and they keep very well, the best of all my squashes, usually until about April time - not tried any longer because we have needed to eat them by then. :)

Hope that helps.

Planted out one of these early June
We had a firkle through the sweetcorn/squash patch last night, and there seemed to be a half dozen tennis ball sized fruit - don't know how much they'll put on before the frosts though
