Who is Joe Strummer ? ???

He was in a band that wrote songs that actually had some meaning... Inspired a generation to pick up guitars & write songs instead of inspiring a generation of bad dancers to sprain their ankles...

i loved the thriller era but was at the right age to do so, never followed him much after that however any death at that age is sad for those left behind
funnily enough i knew he would never ever make old bones and he was never gonna do those concerts in london

...you've gone and done it now Duke.... but you are right.........who is he?  Only thing I can think of is what about his kids?  Will their mother(s) take them?  At least they might get to be treated more like "ordinary" kids now instead of all that messing around with veils and hoods etc.

Just to make sure we're on the same wavelength, these kids we're talking about, is one of them the one that this lovely mad dangled over a balcony?

This thread is making for interesting reading.

I loved the Jacksons, and Michaels music, but then I also happen to be a huge fan of Joe Strummer & the Clash  ;D  (I saw Strummer play live a few times, including on Hastings pier....) Room for us all in this world and a time and a place for different music. And don't forget Quincy Jones' work on Jackson's albums was incredible!

I think its so sad that anyone dies so young

Mr Smith

When he dangled that/his Baby over the balcony it just showed what he was irresponsible, Jacko lived in his plastic world in his plastic body, this is starting to go down the 'Lady Di' road, we will never hear the bloody end of it I'm already turning the news off and watching that other funny show 'Today in Parliament', ;D

Uncle Joshua

A great loss to the music world.

Its a shame about some of the comments in this thread but I guess it was to be expected.

Jealous or what - missed em in Pompey and never got the chance again...
Moved to Portugal - ain't going back!

Have to admit that I like some of his music. As for the person himself, I didn't know enough about him (other than what the media put out about him) to develop an opinion. So many showbiz people end up dying before their time.
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

One of the best quotes on this thread......

Well I always said there was no way he was capable of doing 50 concerts, he could hardly flippin stand let alone dance etc.....
A bit of an extreme sickie to pull though!  ;)

Sorry all those that liked him but I really couldn't care less, it's been a long time coming and I'm willing to bet that it was mainly self inflicted by all his "modifications".

Do not think she is saying anything new Ollie.

I think in our culture it is a fairly new thing, public outpouring of emotion, something that many of us are uncomfortable with and fail to understand.

It does not bother me.I can express a regret at someones passing and leave it at that.Others need to do more.

Who is she to say it is false. What makes her opinion more valid than yours or mine.

I have enjoyed Michael's work and I wish the rest had not happened. That is not my concern as half the stuff you read in the media is a load of rubbish .I do not know the facts.Nor do many others.

cornykev

Loved his early music with the Jackon 5.
Thriller age was OK.
After that was cack.
Agree one less nonce.
Agree kids might just grow up normal now.
;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.
