Having potted mine into black buckets yesterday,I happened to see something todaysaying "plant finally into 5" pots. Have I wasted compost?

I've never put mine in such small pots. Mine are currently in 6" pots and will be potted on into minimum 1l pots in the end...I just keep potting them on really! I find they are quite greedy and run out of nutrients fast.....they would topple over in 5" pots even now! ;D
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

I have aquired some 1' square (cube) black pots for the Aubergines... they did well in the border last year...  :)

Well not all advice is sensible???

Those black buckets are around 10 inches and they are fine

I've got away with 8 inch pots for the smaller varieties like Calliope or Little Finger but they're much happier in the 10".  The full size ones need the bigger pot.

That's ok then- just hope I get some decent fruit this year or I will have wasted a lot of compost!

Mine are all dead, no idea why, but they're dead, dead, dead.

I've just reclaimed a large concrete planter and have put a courgette in it.  Any reason why I shouldn't stick an aubergine in to keep it company?

how large is large ???

I would go for the 2gall (10") florist buckets as well.

Depending upon variety the plants can get a bit top heavy and prone to blowing over.

I would recommend you sink the pot into the soil if this is practical.

I have sunk some of my pots into the compost heap this year!

26 inches across, 15 inches high (although it does taper to the base).  There is plenty of MUCK in the bottom.  ;)

Most Courgettes spread horizontally and aubergines upwards so I'd say there's enough space provide the aubergine is big enough to gets it's head above the courgette at an early stage.

Cheers, that's what I was thinking, so I'll give it a go.
