Cardboard boxes from the supermarket, put things into these then you just need to bend and pick up the box, put it on top and root through.

I got some white ones, strong, they had wine boxes and the sides were clear of adverts so I wrote the contents on the side with black felt tip.

Easy to recycle and replace. The cupboard doors are shut so no one can see what is inside.

Like the pull-out idea - thanks, Tricia.

Sadly, our 'units' are old fashioned & not deep enough.

Back to the drawing board!

Hyacinth

needs thinking round the prob Tim & don't always look for solutions in the kitchenware depts..

My prob. was/is 1) my height (5.2" & shrinking :o)+ a weakness in my arms for lifting things down from heights 2) when my back 'goes' I can't bend to get to low-stored stuff (not even my back-freeing painkillers which were in a bottom cupboard :o) 3) my absolute need for clear clutter-free work surfaces.

Therefore....

I quite ruthlessly keep only pots, pans, sauces, herbs, etc.etc. which I use on a more-or-less daily basis in my available cupboards, both base units & wall.....the only-at-Xmas + Special Occasion large items are kept somewhere else.....my available space is at a premium!

I utilize ALL the inside of cabinets/cupboards to hang things from....pots&pans cupboard door of a base unit,  f'rinstance has hooks for colanders & sieves, while the walls of the same cupboard have hooks for small saucepans...

Under-the-sink there is a similar get-up but this time for tea-towels etc.

Drawer units are worth their weight in gold - but only IF you decide exactly WHAT goes WHERE..

Wall units..I relied heavily on a mix of Betterware/Kleeneze/whatever...again, I adoped the principle of utilizing the inside of the doors for shallow permanent shelving units to house loads of sauces/packets etc....

The wall units themselves have 2 shelves and again these are designated....I found that one of the designated area wasn't making use of the height of the unit, SO...I found in one of the catalogues one of those 2-tiered 'steppped' little thingys? Puts everything on clearly visible view! My Best Buy I found at Asda, years ago...a carousel of  12 spice jars which fits nicely on the first shelf onf a wall unit...

I was fortunate because I could buy cheapo units to my spec. & plan where I wanted them...and because I didn't want things hidden behind others I bought 'slimline' units....18" depth.

They really work - and they really work for me 8)

IF I had to look to organise another space as you describe, Tim,  I'd be thinking outside the box again.....those knickers/socks dividing  units? Could see how they could work  in a kitchen environment...

Great logic, Lishka - great letter!

Yes - I do my best- see earlier Storage thing - & this (shown a while ago).

But the bottom cupboard - even though just for top-up items - is now a no-no. Have to have pull-outs, even if bespoke.

I'll report back - after the 6' double Chimney is rebuilt, the Shutters are paid for, the upped Council Tax ditto, the new Solid Fuel Stove is installed................!!
