Just heard the news that Lloyd's is paying a bonus to their staff.

I think in protest I shall be moving my few pennies to another bank.

Why bother they are all the same,Im with the same bank,if you can find a bank that is more ethical let me know please. :( :(

Us to - with C&G as well.

Had the same thought - £1.2 billion or million - what's the difference these days? - but they did say that is only £1000 here & there. Where deserved, we hope. Makes it sound a wee bit better?

BUT - it's still OUR bail-out money that they are using?

If it were mainly for the fat cats and higher paid who got us into this mess in the first place I'd move my money, but I think it's mostly for the poor bloody infantry.  At £1000 a head, it mounts up if you're a huge employer like Lloyds TSB/C&G/HBOS.

But I don't understand why anyone should get a bonus infantry or not

Money matters, and I saw an ad on tinterweb tonight, bank of scotland are paying people £5 a month if you open an account with them and pay in £1000 a month. free money!  ;D

I just moved all my savings.  I found a tenner in the lounge and thought it would be safer in the kitchen.

We've just moved our savings to the Birmingham Midshires - at a rate of 4.5%  ;D  OH got the transfer in a couple of weeks ago just before their rate dropped as well!

I agree with the bonus argument - I don't really understand how they can be given to anyone after what's happened in the banking industry.  Who deserves one?  They certainly don't.  I'd like to be rewarded with a big fat bonus of someone else's money each time I mess up (ahem, which I'd like to point out isn't that often  ;D)  How can they desperately need bailing out with tax payers money one minute and have the capacity to give bonuses the next?

My Uncle didn't trust banks he apparently kept money in a tin buried in the garden!

Bearing in mind that these bonuses that are now being discussed are for ordinary bank staff who played no part in the decisions that have left us in this mess, are we saying that it is all right for tax payers to bail out people who chased high interest rates in Icelandic Banks (high interest = high risk) some of whom were probably responsible for the mess, but not for people earning as little as £15,000 per year.

Good interest rate!  However, Birmingham Midshires is part of the Lloyds Banking Group. It used to be an offshoot of the Bank of Scotland - i.e. part of HBOS which Lloyds has taken over. You can't win.  ::)

Lloyd's is offering 4% if you have more than £7000 in the account.  I wonder why they are so anxious to get money in.

Yeah, we did um & arr (scuse the English, lol) about that very thing before we leapt in with our savings, but like you say, you just can't win.  I'm not too savvy in the financial world and I leave it to my OH to sort our monies out which he seems to be doing very well with.  We've got our savings split after almost losing them last time!
