I have been trying to grow peppers for the last 2 years. Although the plants look very healthy they don't produce much fruit. I sow them when I sow the toms in February so they have time enough to produce something. What variety do you all grow and what success do you have please. I want to order my seed soon but don't want to waste my money
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Last two years I've grown whatever Wilko's have been selling for outdoors.  This year it was Sweet California Wonder.  Got a huge crop of the biggest peppers I've ever grown despite the rotten summer and on teensy little plants too.

I now grow them in an unheated greenhouse and get a good crop - grew Lipstick, Sweet Chocolate, Sweet banana and a purple one - can't remember the name. I end up growing one or two plants outside, but the peppers are always smaller.

glad you asked that question i did not know that you could grow them in a unheated greenhouse, better look at the varieties that i need.

I grow my peppers in a unheated greenhouse.  California Wonder has produced the best for me at 80p for 10 seeds.  This year I tried  Gypsy F1 at almost £3 for 10 seeds and it hasn't produced half as much.  So back to the original next year.

Franchi seeds, Red Bullshorn peppers, not many turned red, probably due to lack of a hot summer, but LOADS of large flavoursome fruit. ;)
You couldn't make it up!

We are pepper-holics.I have to stop my wife eating them as I am chopping them up for a salad! (whoops she's lost two fingers!) Most types grow well in our unheated greenhouse. This year despite a vile summer they all did well (better than the tomatoes and aubergines!)
Can't understand why they grew well but never produce fruit? Did they produce flowers? If they did you may have ended up with a variety that needs insect pollination and with the poor insect population the last two years that may be a reason. However most varities that I have grown are self pollinating.

Looks as if Wilkies win again. I'm just gonna have to go in there when they get all of this trashy sparkly stuff out of the way(bah humbug)  Thankyou all for your input

Shirlton. I've not got any full packets left but if you'd like 10 or so Sweet California Wonder seeds to try, PM me and I'll post them to you.

Hi,
Last year I just bought a pack Tesco's Organic Peppers "Ramio", UK Country of origin, and sowed the seeds, had a great crop. They are the long pointed ones sowed 17th Jan.

Worth a try.

Update - was in Wilko's this morning and found some Sweet California Wonder in the half price rummage bin so if anyone wants to try a few let me know.
