I bought 20bags of mushroom compost today @60p each (anyone living in Havering or close by, it's at Folkes lane, A127).

How is it best to use it on clay soil, a light sprinkle on top or 2"- 4" deep and dig it in?

Neil,
I envy you. The nearest supplier for me is 40-50 mls. The cost is in the transport - hence bl**dy expensive , but great for the soil & of course the 'freebies'!

I was looking on the net for top soil and mushroom compost and it was very expensive delivered. At work i was chatting to one of the ladies and she said she gets her m/c from a mushroom farm down the road :o i have been going past this mushroom farm for years and had no idea it was there.
It has closed down now so what is left, is all there is (about 15 tonnes). I plan on getting as much as possible over the coming months and just storing it in the compost bins.

Now I am confused,  Old Neddy says No to mushrooms sprouting from compost,

A neighbour recently had a crop of 9" 'Horse Mushrooms' sprout on his lawn.

Was going away so gave them to us!!

Oh tim,   did you cook it in o'oil and butter , have bacon too, and fried tomatoes and

then wipe the pan with crusty bread ?   ;)  [  got to have a lie down ]

Any way  --  you do get freebies then ?   ::)

;D i'm so hungry now ;D

I will take a chance on the freebies as they are not harmful. I have some mushrooms growing on some of the places i put horse manure down and have no idea if they are edible, so will leave them alone.

   Thanks nilly,

We used to pick them in Devon from cow-pats,  gert teaplates  and good and black underneath,
    then eat them.    :D

Always checkout fungi first before picking and eating - has got to be a website somewhere,
We rarely found other types around the manured areas, so they stand a good chance of
being horse/field mushrooms, lovely   ---   but as I advised, do check them out first    ;)

I use to be able to get mushroom compost delivered in bags which I found best for me.  Now they only deliver  in large loads.   I searched on-line found it also very expensive.   Does anyone know a supplier near South Birmingham that sells it in bags?  I could collect   Thanks for any replies..

tim

Our local chap - who is a 'centre', not a grower, charges £70 for a builder's bag.

Tim,
Now that IS a rip-off!!!!!!!!!
