Hello everyone
Has anyone had problems with duck eggs?  I have Khaki Campbell ducks only one laying and she is about 6months old now and lays an egg every day, but occasionally when I go to crack the egg, the yolk is a beautiful golden colour apart from the very top of the yolk and it looks to be grey mould and then surrounded by the white of the egg.  There is no smell but I still would not use it and throw it away. The shell is never damaged so nothing could get in from the outside, would appreciate advice.  I am new to duck keeping and out of the 2 ducks only one is laying, I was assured when I bought them that they were both female now after 6 months I am not so sure. One is a white campbell and the other the Khaki.  I had thought of separating them and see which one is laying but they get a bit upset if they are parted so not sure what to do next.

im guessing its either something to do with the male/ fertilisation

OllieC

If they're hard boiled & the gray bit is all the way round, it's a sign of overcooked eggs, when the proteins are oxidised or something like that...

davyw1

YEP its the Drake,s/ cockerels sperm hope i have not put anyone off.

OllieC

Doesn't bother me - I wouldn't eat a mamal's eggs, but am happy with bird eggs!!!

davyw1

I think the term is cockerels spit.

What a thread killer.

Have your chickens given you any eggs ollie?

OllieC

No! I've taken to talking in front of them about eating chickens that don't lay eggs... Fifi should start soon, I reckon!
