I've been looking forward to my swedes all year, its the first time I've grown these and are our favourite Sunday dinner veg. What a disapointment  :( they were, they didn't taste nice at all, I asked my next plot neighbour Sid if he thought they were ready and the biggest two were a fair size so we agreed they were, what went wrong they looked very healthy.  ???     :(     ;D ;D ;D

we've been a bit disappointed in some crops this year, taste wise, ck..i'm sure it's all the rain  watering them down :-\

kt.

I have not had much luck with swede in the past.  This year, mine look the best I have ever grown.   Started them off in seed trays for a change.  What a difference this has made.  Almost 100% germination and a very very good size too.  Will be doing the same next year.  (Variety is Marion)

My Swedes and Turnips were so bad this year, nothing edible at all. They were decimated by whitefly and although they grew to a good size they all split. Can't understand why given the amount of rain we've had this year.

Parsnips, carrots and Beetroot are all fabulous so I can't work out why some root veg split and others not?

Made a note of the variety Marion, thanks KT.

Sow it, grow it, eat it.

wait until after a frost before your next one.

I am with misterroy. Swedes don't seem so strong tasting and they sweeten up a bit if you pick them after they have been  out in a frost..
Cheers .. Jim

it may be the dull weather. I'm getting complaints about my 'tasteless' pumpkins.

Talking of 'tasteless pumpkins' did anyone see the £15,000 extreme body makeover program with the vile Kerry Katona on it?

Horrendous!
