Forecast of 6 C minimum on Saturday night, and that's in the sunny South!! Has anyone had a ground frost yet?

froglets

Not yet, but the hanging baskets are looking very sorry, as if it's been close once or twice.
is it in the sale?
(South Cheshire)

ACE

No. Don't be silly, it is still the middle of summer here.

Perhaps the frozen wastelands of the north might suffer, (anywhere north of Farnham) I stayed at Sands last week and I must admit it was a bit nippy ;D

Moonbeam65

Had a touch of ground frost the other week here up in Dundee Scotland but it is now getting very nippy at night think its time for the electric blanket again.

Trixiebelle

No frost yet but I'm quite looking forward to it!

Nothing in the allotment would be killed by it (they'll even benefit from it) and I can get down to Winter digging ... one of my favourite activities  ;D

I can also bring flasks of veg soup up to the allotment and sit in Ahmed's SUPER-WARM SHED for hours on end :D

Can't stop laughing at this one, this is Ollie at his wind up best, going back to bed now for the winter, Yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, Snoozeeeeeeeeeeee

OllieC

Er, I don't see how it's a wind-up when we're 3 degrees away from a potential ground frost in one of the warmest parts of the UK... but thanks for the input!

Mr Smith

Err, Er, se ya next winter Ollie ;D ;D

OllieC

I don't understand why you're such a wally sometimes, but nevermind!

I just saw a 3 on the weather map for tomorrow, somewhere south of Birmingham...

When God blesses you with a multitude of seeds double  the blessing by sharing your  seeds with other folks.

On Tues morning  6.45 a.m. I looked out the window and the grass was white with frost.   Didn't last long though and no plants or veg affected.

Scottish Borders.

Ollie I'm 12 miles northish of you, my cuecumbers (the outside ones of course)
are smooshed i presume from the cold,
they look pretty much like the ones that got frosted at the front of the year

I know I go on about this... 5C forecast for Friday down here... time to wrap up those tender plants, if you can get out between showers!

ceres

Same-ish area.  In the last week the baby sweetcorn which is still cropping has got   browning of the tip inside the cob and the growing tips on the sweet peppers have shrivelled and died.  I think getting down to around 10 degrees overnight has done it.  Chillis and toms still OK but not for long I think.  Thanks for the heads up Ollie, I'll get the fleece out!

thifasmom

no actual frost but low temps have done the same thing with a couple of my sweet peppers and one of my three aubergines, so i dug up the other two to over winter in the conservatory since i only got flowers and no actual fruit, hope i can either get fruit over the winter or at least keep the plant going to get a early crop next year, ho hum :-\.

Metcheck for SW London = cold enough to be of concern.

No we've not had a frost YET, but I don't think its far off from when we do.  :( :(

I hate this time of year, when you are clearing out the greenhouse of tomatoes, etc, and putting everything to bed for winter.

I don't think I particularly suffer from SAD, but I do get a bit 'down in the dumps' at this time of year.

Relative living near Turrif, Aberdeen, just said on facebook: "sitting watching it snowing"

Must turn up heating and look out the LJs!
Why plant rows of 24 lettuces??
