I tried... ended up with things like spring onions! The sets are good though!

I sowed two packts into seed trays as I lose a lot if I sow them directly. This gave loads of plants - too many to transplant directly. I have planted them at 5 - 10 per station. I will thin these out during teh Winter and Spring as salad onions.

In the past I have grown them directly and they produce good onions in June - July

I grow these in cells by just sowing a pinch of seed per cell and then transplant early October I always find they fair better then sets for me.

I've tried them out from seed this year.  The plantlets were transplanted last weekend and looked like spring onions.  They were sown back in August and the germination was very good :)

I have grown these from seeds, take ages to bulb up, but had good yields in the end.

Well I hope you have better luck than me. I planted senshyu seed in trays last aug/sept and they grew fine, I then lovingly transplanted them into the ground where they stood looking exactly the same size till the following JUNE! After which I dug them out and planted leeks.

Nightmare.

Lots of other people seem successful in growing them though.
