Bought Alan Romans seed before, he gets them packed for him in there little envelopes by Thomson & Morgan didn't have a great deal of luck with them told him so as he lives not that far away from me and is sometime at the garden centre in Fife.
Will not be buying any more from him he is quite an ignorant person.

ANY MORE COMMENTS BEFORE I MAKE UP MY MIND....THATS IF I CAN

Froglegs

I have not had a problem with his seeds, spoke to him on the phone and he seems a nice chap, will be ordering from him next year. :)

I am glad some people are having good results with his seeds i didn't and now get most of mine from lidl which are great value for the money and there gladiola bulbs are great there is quite a few now exhibiting them at shows and winning so its up to you if the seeds you get from different sources work for you then that's fine.

Alan Roman were recommended to me by another plot holder. Mostly good but mixed results, best and worst were ....

very poor carrot germination (nantes and rainbow)
poor swedes (Bora)
early PSB looking promising
excellent crop of  Parsnips (Gladiator), I can't wait to try these  :)

Alan Roman were very helpful when my first delivery were lost in the post so I can't fault them on customer service.

I'm going to order from Kings Seeds via our alloment holder association this year otherwise I'd give Alan Roman another try.

I mentioned in another thread that I'd had success with his seeds but that I think the packets had less in them than others- still plenty for most, though. Only complaint I had about AR was that when I ordered spuds from him, for which he is more famous, they were packed in plastic bags so by the time they got here (picked up in person by my OH) they were sweating. Still did ok, but more expensive than elsewhere.

I buy from him - never had any problems in 3 years. As alreadysaid, smallish packets, small costs. You tend to get the amount of seeds you need so have less half packets lying about the place!

I find that his seeds and service are excellent. I have spoken to him on several occasions at Potato days and have always found him very pleasant.
He told me that the reason that he can sell his seeds cheaper than most, is that most of the cost of the seeds that you buy from the big seed companies, is made up of the cost of advertising, catalogues and their postage, and the fancy printed envelopes. In other words, the seeds themselves are relatively cheap.
