I don't know if this has been pointed out, if so, I apologise in advance  ;D
these little things are great for starting seedlings off.
I've just sowed lots of seeds in them and have noticed they swell up much quicker and more fully if you use warm water  :)

I agree, I've got about four of the 12-cell type, and buy the refills in packs of 72, they are great for startring off seed, I don't use them all the time but am glad I started using them.  :) :) :)

Me too! they are absolutely fab.  I have a tray that holds 49 and I stand on capillary mat I do a strange ref. system so although I sow 49 at the same time I sow a variety of seeds, its the easiest and quickest method I have found for sowing/germinating

By the way, what sizes do folks prefer?

I got some tiny ones this year to try, think I'll stick to the next size up, the small ones fall over too easily and I can't figure out which plant is which  ;D
I've used them all up with the winter veggies  ;D

They're pellets of dry peat or coir wrapped in fine mesh and look like poo tiddleywinks. Then you pour water on them and they expand into little plugs, ideal for sowing individual seeds and great for avoiding transplant stress. They expand faster with warm/hot water - an instant poo garden! Forgive me, I'm regressing.

Anyway, you can see them at either of these links. Prices are higher on one site, but postage is lower, so they even out.

do you plant them straight out into the ground or do you pot on into a larger pot ?

Depends on what they are.  Beetroot and lettuce I plant straight out, brassicas, tomatoes and other stuff that needs cossetting I plant on into bigger pots.

All looks very good but a tad pricy?
