I've posted before that they are a good source of pallets 8), but this morning noticed that they have recycling bins for plastic pots + trays. Not that I had any pots to recycle, mind, but loaded up the car with their plant-pot trays ;D

Are you supposed to take them? Whilst loading up the boot a few weeks ago I noticed it only talks about dropping them off...

Squires garden centres also have the bins in the car park and you can help yourself.

My local garden centre does pot recycling, of a sort. The have a bin made out of pallets outside the main door for people to drop off their pots and a notice inviting customers to help themselves to any they want. I haven't deposited, although i keep meaning to have a sort out and use it to get rid of pots i dont want. I have though taken away some i thought might be usefull.

The trouble with the way this GC has it set up is that it is easy fro people to deposit, but finding what pots you want from the big untidy (and often overflowing) pile is very difficult and would put a lot of people off. If the pots were roughly sorted and tidied maybe then more people would take pots away to reuse. In this way i dont think they have thought the scheme through enough, There is no encouragement for customers to take pots away and as the pile never seems to get any less, any mass removal for commercial recycling must be infrequent to the point of almost non existent.

PS the garden centre in question is a small local chain that i will not name.

Our Homebase has had pot trays in bins for taking all summer, they are very popular and I've taken all I can use.

Gordon Riggs, in the North West, have a random selection of trays and stuff for you to help yourself to...or they did a few months ago!

My local independent GC has such a bin, made from pallets. They don't sort them, but am known for having a good rummage everytime I  go.

Initially I'd take anything when I needed it, only to return it a few weeks later.
Not so much recycling, more a loan.

I'm quite fussy about what I take these days. Always grab the 3ltr and above (if in good condition).
