Although, it doesn't seem to affect all of them equally.  I have a big problem with it on garlic but successfully grow onions, spring onions, japanese onions.

We`ll I`ll just have to give a few of them a whirl and see !

I always lose a few garlic bulbs, but onions are usually OK, and I've never seen it on leeks. Elephant garlic and walking onions have been all right so far.

I too always lose one or two garlic bulbs and one or two onions.  I don't know how I manage to keep it under control really because I am not particularly fastidious with hygiene from one area to another.  I do rotate though so it does not build up in one area.

Good luck??

Having lived 2 years without Onions, I do emphasise take every possible care - with as long a rotation as possible - or you may live to regret it.

Possibly Tim but I do wonder whether soil types has a bearing.  I am calcareous like you are but we are very free draining as the allotment is on the site of a former quarry that is filled with spoil.

All I know about calcareous soil is that our Potatoes get Warts!
