My shallots have been very variable this year...  :-[

mine haven't been as good this year either (red sun).

I haven't yet tried shallots (my onions are small enough ;D ) Interesting that "they" appear to grow them through plastic. Is this an approach you'd recommend?

Allotment neighbour has been banging on about Eschallot grise?

Whatever, go for the oval varieties for the chef's sake!

I planted shallots in a large pot this year and they came out ok. The picture on the right shows quite fresh, green looking stalks. I thought that shallots should be picked when the stalks turned yellow and fell over. Or did i wait too long???

But so does the one on the left, Tyke - the 'as it should be' photo?

Agree, it seems strange, but the stalks grow enormous, flop all over the place - & I needed the room!

ah - good point.

I used to work in a well known fast food firm many years ago. They used plastic burgers etc to make the photos on the adverts and picture. I wonder if there is a market for making perfect veggies for seed companies???
