many of you will know we have a staffie dog, she was barking at a ball under the swing last night, turns out it was a hedgehog so we re-homed it today to the plot, here he/she is coming out of the box

do we need to feed it dog food or will it find enough for itself, d'you think ?

How far from the house is your plot please. Hedgehogs have territories that they roam, they can cover several miles a night. Also it could be a female with babies at home waiting for mummy to return. We have several HHs passing through our garden & one is a female with her baby so please think carefully before deciding to leave it at the plot.
What time of day was it coming out of the box. HHs shouldn't be seen during daylight hours. I buy spike dry HH food & have dishes all round the garden + water dishes as well. They are very thirsty creatures. Perhaps you could phone the HH preservation society to check what is best to do.
If a wild animal is injured it is usually taken back to where it was found to be released.

grannyjanny is right.  Hopefully plot near where hedgehog found.  Hedgehogs love peanuts (not the salted ones).  They can be quite vocal too at night.

thanks for the advice, we took it away because it would've been hurt by the dog, she is big and powerful with very strong jaws, the plot is a couple of miles away, whatdo we do now, it was early hours we let it go and it made for the leaf pile..possibly we could find it and bring it back but couldn't let it get back in our garden  ???

Hi MS. The HHs we have visiting our  garden come at about 10o'clockish. What time does the dog go out for the last time. The HH has probably been using your garden for years (unless it's a new build). Has he seen it before. Do you think he would risk biting it?
We've had them for over 30 years  passing through our garden & in the 13years we had a westie she only found a HH once. It was under the bird table eating peanuts & seeds.
Have you seen it at the lottie, it may have done a runner (literally). They move very fast.

the dog would play with it, I would be worried about them both, she goes out about 11ish for the last time..anyway, not seen any evidence of it on the plot so, will see what happens and what the site says  :)
