Over the weekend I succumbed to temptation and bought 3 blueberry bushes  ::)

I know they can be grown in containers, and that they need ericaceous compost, but what size container is best?

You can grow them in large containers but they need acid soil.

At least 15" containers

Mine have done well in containers just so long as I remember rain water only.

we've got ours in the famous black buckets, filled with ericaceous compost, bottom cut off and buried in the ground so's they're damp..I can't believe how well they're doing, they've got flowers on already  ;D

Same here but my Langley Gage and Leveller gooseberries have already got fruit !!!

Thanks all.  MR & D I'd wondered about sinking a container in the ground, so I think I'll give that a go.

I imagine chicken pellets might be good being acid loving and all that.

id heard somewhere that tomatoe food was good for them??? my twig from the poundshop proved a dud tho as its rotted in the cold so couldnt tell you, never did get to feeding it... where did you get youre bushes from please? or has anyone grown them from seed?

I bought them from ebay it was from seller id daveaber0  however other fruits I have bought from www.cooltemperate.co.uk have been good.

Got ours from M&S .

I got mine from the local garden centre (the one that was on telly recently, a program called Honest).
I didn't know about the acid requirement, so I shall put some chicken pellets on.
It has started to flower too, it's in my greenhouse.

www.jparkers.co.uk sell blueberry collections (5 different varieties ) for about £20, I got that last year & plants are good & strong & covered in flowers this year

I've had mine from Buckingham Nurseries, the GW beanfest, Woolies, Poundstretcher and the 99p shop - in all shapes and sizes and stages of development from 'dead sticks' to flowering. I've had nine in total and lost three. And at least one of those was down to me. I reckon it's the luck of the draw - get 'em where you will!
