Hi - I am determined to do a better job of successional planting this year. I wanted to ask if cucumbers (Crystal Lemon) all arrive at the same time or do they keep cropping like courgettes? Also how many plants do I need - looked at a thread on the search but it didnt answer this for this particular type of cucumber. Thanks

Cucumbers constantly crop, as fast as you pull one another will be ready more so with crystal lemon/apple. The number of plants depends on how many cucumbers you can eat/use and you can get an awfull lot.
When you wake up on a morning say "good morning world" and be grateful

So I better phone my mother in law and ask her not to sow 10 at 2 weekly intervals then?! Thanks for that information - very useful.

They should keep cropping. How many plants depends on how many cucumbers you eat but you should get at least one decent cucumber a week from each plant. Some people say that you should keep only one per plant, taking off the extras. Probably two plants will be enough. Don't let them get too big though, it is better for eating to crop them too small than let them grow over sized.

1. I prefer to grow the smaller (6") varieties - you don't always need a 10" one & I hate waste.

2. 'Keep only one per plant'?? In my case you'd be mad. I want as many as I can get! At least 50 per plant. See below.

3. I always try to stagger, but usually fail. Despite that, they produce until October.

4. We grow 8 plants - in the cold house. I'm just starting to sow.

Mrs Ava

Glad I am on track with you then Tim, mine have just broken the surface of the compost today.

My marketmore is fine at about 3 inches.   Only 1 of 2 Carmen germinated, it is 4 inches tall now.   My 2 Zienna F1 have almost died. (At £6 for 5 seeds I am not happy.)

What variety are yours Tim?

SORRY for the repeat above - got carried away with this 'inserting' business & didn't check.

Variety - usually Passandra. Or similar.
