Hi Im looking for a tasty kale - something hardy that I cant kill would be good!  Any advice on variety and growing would be handy.

Cheers

As said earlier, I find Red Russian excellent - esp in salads.

Thanks Tim, I thought I had written it down but I must have lost it.

Cheers

We're growing Sutherland kale this year, which is supposed to be the hardiest kale in the known universe - I'll let you know how we get on.  I sort of think that if you can grow it in Sutherland, you must be able to grow it anywhere, but I've been known to kill most things  ;)

For advice on growing see this month's Organic Gardening magazine - there's a great article in there.

Hi,

This year I'm growing Dwarf Green Curled and Scarlet, both of which are from Thompson and Morgan.  If you're lucky, you may find the scarlet packets for 69p as these were on special offer.

Oh, and they both germinate really well.  I sowed mine and they were up within 10 days and that was in the cold snap over Easter.

Good luck.

That doesn't always follow Greenstar... eg some apples won't fruit without a long cold period so won't grow in the Souther USA etcetera but Kale should be ok in UK... probably wouldn't do well in Spain... ask Biscombe about Flea Beetle and Swede Midge!!

How about some Chard too, similar to Kale but much prettier.

I love my chard

Im growing Sutherland kale as well Greenstar, yours may well do better than mine as you are further north in Glasgow. Im in the midlands.

Im looking forward to eating it ;D ;D

I love chard as well. Growing more this year, spoilt for choice ;)
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.
