My New Best Friend!

We are so proud of our beautiful ladies - and hope you like them too  ;D

We love them dearly bald bits and all! their personalities are certainly coming through thats for sure we have several names already!

Beatrice - (Shes queen B and the top of the pecking order!)
Dora - (The Explorer, always the first one to stick her beak in!)
McQueen - ('Steve' - keeps trying to leap the fence!)
Peggy sue - ('Peg leg' who has a poorly leg and needs some TLC)
Rasher - (A very large floppy comb that looks like bacon!)
Scragend - ( very bald neck poor little love!)
Bez - (bit of a daydreamer, drifts off into a trance!)
Ginger - (my sons choice down to her lovely colour!)
Chocolate - (as above!)
Emona - (looks quite sad, and daughter said therefore an EMO??)
Amber - (again a lovely colour!)

4 more to go - think i'll have to do a bit more watching! its tough but somebodies gotta do it!

You will hardly recognise them before long. We only have three and they are real beauties now and so tame. Ours are Lucky, Lottie and Hetty.

What lovely pics! (and captions LOL) and I'm also particularly impressed by the Boys of the Band and the mural, too. Loved their names 8) Can't wait to read about the others  :)

They look lovely even the one with the bald neck.  Did you make your coop yourself.  Could you show us a picture of it.  The school I work at are getting soming eggs and incubator next week.  If the chicks survive (they didnt a few years ago :'() Im keeping them.  Got an old rabbit hutch to use for a while but will need a proper home for my babies eventually so if anyone has any ideas???

They are great! - I never managed to get ex-battery hens, never had a response from the local rehoming group, and although I love my Orpingtons, I'd still like some ex-batteries one day, and your pictures have given me the push I think I needed, so I'll look into getting some

Thanks

Hi thanks to everyone for their lovely comments - yes the coop is all homemade from old pallets which probably took alot longer to build than using new wood, as getting them apart was more than a bit tricky at times! (my OH had some very colourful language at times!) BUT obviously was alot cheaper! We even managed to reuse alot of the nails so it cost less than £10!

I'll take a few pic of it over easter when we hope to have the painting finished weather permitting! :P

WOW I am really envious - bet the chooks like their colourful new home!  they look lovely!

Good luck with them and look forward to seeing new pictures when they have fluffed out a bit!

;D ;D ;D Your ladies look so happy looking around their new home!! Its a pure delight to witness the freedom of battery hens and I think you are doing a stirling job!!!  I would dearly love to acquire some myself, but I live on a mobile home park and although we are allowed cats and dogs we do have to follow rules regarding other types of pets.. etc and unfortunately chickens are not allowed.... but looking at your photographs and knowing that your battery hens are going to experience a now free and happy life is pleasure enough!!
Hope they give you loads of wonderful eggs in return.......

God made rainy days so gardeners could get the housework done.  ~Author Unknown
