Allotments 4 All

Not a food question, but one about what we think was a mushroom. Whilst hiking in Brittany we came across something that looked like some sort of mushroom but instead of having a typical hat it had a growth along its stem that's bets described as red currants. Anybody any idea what it might have been ???

It grew in the rather moist deep shade of the "hollow" roads.

Don't know what it tastes like  ;D

Sounds more like the seeds of something like....trilliums or something......some sort of woodland flower rather than a fungus....and I am sure in the back of my mind I know what it should be, but I can't drag the information forward!  If it comes to me, I shall edit.

Well, I'm not sure about that. In a "half ripe" stage they seemedto look just like normal mushrooms before opening up ther hats. But instead of opening up to form a hat, it sort of peeled  off to reveal these shiny red bulby currantly things on its stem. All in all about 10 inch high

I seem to have been mistaken, it wasn't a mushroom or parasite after all but the fruit of "Arum maculatum"

Could be lethal or very sickening

Er... Very sickening I think. I don't believe it is lethal, but then again that would depend on how much you ate!

Can I just show you this image of a group of toadstools that have popped up at the base of our Cycas revoluta or Sago Palm as they are better known? Pretty little things. The larger one reminds me of something…ah yes a Chinese hat. ;)
