Hi,
I started growing in my back garden last year when I dug up half of my lawn and put in raised beds. Would love to grow more but OH not to happy with idea of digging up the rest of the garden  ;)
Anyway thinking about an allotment.  I have looked on the Sefton Council website and can't see any locally to me.  Does anyone live in Lydiate/Maghull/Aughton and know of any allotments nearby.  I know the waiting lists are enormous in most places so not holding out much hope.
Thanks

BAK

you could try this site ...

http://www.allotmentregister.co.uk/index.php

However, it was not working when I tried it just now. It may just be a temporary blip - I have used it ok before now.

Database still not working.
Is it true for all areas that you can only apply for allortment within your own Local Authority Area.

chilli queen

Still not working. :(
Is there anyone here who has an allotment through Sefton Council (Merseyside)
Looks like there are some in Formby and Bootle.
Also how far away from home do you think is manageable.

When I moved house aprox 12 miles away I did not want to part with my allotment.I convinced myself I could keep it up.I could not .A fter a long day on the plot I had to drive home across heavy city traffic and it became a grind.A friend of mine who sadly has now died had put up my greenhouse and put in steps on a slope and I felt I was doing the wrong thing by turning my back on his hard work.I was so sentimental about it all.Anyway in the end I realised I had to let it go.I still miss it and my friends I made but happily I now have another allotment much closer to home.
I would not recommend to anyone to travel too far to their plot.Other people might think differently.Good luck with your search ;D

ours is about 6 miles away, no choice, they are the only ones we could get a place in in wigan,  :)

Hi,
Thanks for your replies.  I agree 12 miles would be too far  :o Think I will have a drive out over the weekend and check out the distances - then need to find out who you need to 'know' to get my name on the (no doubt very long) list.

hi
I live in maghull and got an allotment in walton by aintree last year at the walton allotments in seeds lane, there was no waiting list at the time. There are also plans to build allotments in parkhaven trust by deyes lane school (google maghull allotments) hope this helps

hiya, alowster, welcome to the site..took me right back there, I used to live near your allotments  ;D

Hi alowstar,
Thanks for reply.  Yes I saw in the local paper that Parkhaven was going to have some allotments - I will have to try to find out who to contact to get on the 'list'.  Did you have any problem getting allotment in seeds lane - I thought it had to be in the same council as you lived in?

alowster
