We are getting flooded again!
Some places are supposed to be worse that July!!
Road are turning into rivers.
Luckily our house is ok, but less that a mile away some people are already bailing the water out of their houses!!
This time also sleet and snow and blizzards and very cold. Temperatures are dropping and there could be really bad frost and ice on roads, adn the gritters havent been able to get out!!
They are already starting to close the motorway

To think I have been moaning because we have rain today. Just hope things do not get any worse and people manage to stay safe.
Best wishes to anyone who may be affected.

Just Vegging Out

I am in a bad flood area in Kent - not flooded yet but the rivers are right up to the tops and so are the ditches, another days rain and it could well flood.  Are we having a high tide?  I know where I live the water can come up as the tide rises, yet I am a good 30 miles from the sea.

I hope the rains stop and as few houses as possible get flooded for a second time.  It must be truly soul destroying to see your home washed away all over again.

Good Luck XXXX

EAK!!

Whats the risk to your homes, do you need to start moving things?

Emagggie

Drove along the sea front  (Southend) this afternoon and remarked to daughter 1 that it was an extremley high tide-waves crashing on to the pavement :o Glad I live up the road a bit.
My heart goes out to the folk under threat, the flooding is bad enough without the cold.
Smile, it confuses people.

SueSteve

I am listening to the radio, lots of people are stranded in the snow on Crickley Hill on the edge of the cotswolds!
My son was delayed coming home from school as they got stuck in blizzards and floods.
And now a few places in GLoucestershire have had power cuts.
We will be ok. But I feel for anyone around here that has been flooded again! A lot of people recently moved back into their houses that were flooded in July! And its happened again!
Big issue at the moment is building new houses 50,000+, planning to build on floodplains!! How many times do we need this to happen before they see sense.

Hopefully noone will be flooded out this time - hopes are with you.

R U Sure your not going to be affected???

I would be making up a flask of hot water and a flask of hot soup just in case and moving a couple of things upstairs :(

When people come to renew their insurance it will crucify their bank account.  I live in a flood area, and even though my house has never flooded or have never claimed, because I am in that area - my insurance has gone through the roof.

Someone said about the 50,000 houses - about a mile away from here it is notorious for really deep flooding over a large area - THE COUNCIL WANT TO BUILD 700 HOUSES THERE - does this ever make sense?

I hope the rain stops for these poor people.

It  amazes me to see these building firms are still building on flood plains, are they 'brain dead' or what.

Vony.

Its not only the building on the flood plains its building everywhere that is covering the green sites with tarmac and causing the water to run off in all directions because it cant soak away and head of under ground . I hope your all still dry ;)

Add to that the results of long term chemical fertilisation of agricultural crops. If there are no bulky organics added to the soil, it's water holding capacity is seriously diminished, and if the land can't hold the water then it runs straight off. A return to organic principles would make a great difference, I feel.

I thought I was going to get caught out again last night trying to drive home to Gloucester but I managed although there was a lot of flooding on the A and B roads.

It wasn't as bad as the flooding back in the summer but it was an awful feeling wondering if it would be and praying that it would stop raining, we were lucky in the summer, when the floods came our house was just out of the worst hit areas about 1/2 mile down the road.

I hope no one was badly hit last night.

It appears the The forest of dean and south glos got the worst of the rain, and the cotswolds the snow,
So we were lucky.

morton

The problem is that when they build on areas likely to flood they import thousands of tonnes of fill to raise the ground level for the new site by many metres. This makes sure that the new houses do not flood but they do not consider the existing surrounding houses that suddenly become low lying and subject to flooding.

ugly gourd

I agree morton but they only worry about their new builds the other properties are out of sight out of mind

manicscousers

I can't understand why they've not mentioned it on the news last night, hope everyone's okay.. :)

we live in South Glos ,luckily on high ground but had to cross a flooded bridge on our way home yesterday! it didn,t stop all day (decided lotty was out )and there was a lot of water on the roads. Yate is one of the places they want to build thousands of new houses!! there are a lot of natural springs around the area used to have a lot of mines and quarries and it has been known for big holes to appear in gardens
what we need is less people not more houses ( lets shoot the planners first)
